Off road champs thrill

30 Aug 2016

Local motorsport zealots were thrilled to the brim during the 2nd edition of the annual Hi-Range 4x4 Experience and Outdoor Expo event held at the Lion Park over the weekend.

On Saturday, event organisers catered for car dealers who gave spectators the opportunity to test drive the vehicles while on Sunday was the 4x4 challenge.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ten obstacle course Sleek brand marketing’s event organiser, Ama Moilwa explained that test drives were conducted by qualified instructors provided by dealers. Moilwa noted that the reason the event was named Hi-range 4x4 Experience and Outdoor Expo was to expose those who own 4x4 vehicles but had never used them to their full potential.

On Sunday, the challenge which was appropriate for drivers who needed to drive off-road every once in a while as an aspect of their duties and responsibilities provided competitors with a fantastic track whose dominating feature was most certainly the elevation range, blind crests and some unique surfaces.

The competition was close and unpredictable during the first five loops which took drivers through physically taxing donga ridges and final lap of a muddy terrain.

In a standard class Nissan Hardbody, Kiren Singh came out tops after impressing the judges in the entire obstacles.

A seemingly elated Singh was thrilled to have won against tough contestants in the non-modified class.

He explained that he was expecting tough opposition but had to drive to his level best.

In the much anticipated close contest in the modified class, Gideon Schoeman reproduced his past performance and retained his pole position ahead of stiff opposition from his opponents.

The overall winner of the Hi-Range outdoor experience traversed the thick terrains in his Jeep Wrangler much to the excitement of the sizeable crowd that had gathered for the two -day spectacle. ENDS
