Football tournaments help promote good health.
Ghanzi assistant district commissioner, Lee Lesetedi said this at the Ghanzi Meat Football tournament in Ghanzi on Satirday.
Lesetedi said such tournaments promoted good health among the community besides socialisation.
He applauded the organisers of the tournament who are also the brains behind the annual Ghanzi Meat Festival; saying events such as meat festival also helped promote the tourism industry not only in the country but most importantly in the district.
He said events such as the football tournaments will add to other events in the district, which were an attraction to Ghanzi District for people outside the district.
In an interview, one of the organisers, Greg Losibe, said the main purpose of the tournament was to unite the community of Ghanzi.
He said the tournament was meant to bring together people in Ghanzi and share ideas on how best to further develop the district.
Losibe also noted that the tournament was meant to keep the youth away from delinquencies. He said in attending tournaments such as these youth are able to interact with relevant people who could assist in shaping their future.
Ghanzi Meat Football tourney had four teams participating; Sexanana, Taxi Men, Pega Segwana and Ngala O Boe social clubs. Sexanana and Pega Segwana were the two teams that made it to the final and Sexanana Social Club won the tournament against Pega Segwana.
Blondie Mmopi, captain of Sexanana Social Club said they wished to have more tournaments such as these in the district as they bring together people as a community and employees in the district. Mmopi said he wish for more social club teams in the next Ghanzi Meat Football tournament. ENDS
