Medical practitioners raise funds for charity

27 May 2013

The Medical Practitioners’ Group (MPG) exists to ensure that proper administration of medical procedures and ethics are followed.

Speaking at a dinner dance sponsored by Botswana Public Officers’ Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS) in Gaborone on May 25, the chairperson of Medical Practitioner Group (MPG), Dr Anthony Sibiya said the event would afford them an opportunity to interact and meet other stakeholders in health and non-health sectors to share knowledge and exchange ideas.

He said MPG consists of private medical practitioners and relies on members’ subscriptions and also hold annual dinner dance to raise funds for charity and other community projects.

Dr Sibiya however said he was happy that many companies have extended a helping hand by purchasing tickets for the dinner, which was fairly attended and brought many academics of different trades.

For his part, the Associated Fund Administrators (AFA) acting managing director, Mr Duncan Thela said the funds raised will assist those who are less privileged in the society, noting that this dinner dance was therefore important and needed support from the general populace.

Mr Thela, whose company administers both BPOMAS and Pula Medical Aid Fund, said his company has come a long way in partnering with health practitioners and was hopeful that the arrangement will continue to blossom for a good course.

For his part, the president of MPG Dr Karl Sligman thanked BPOMAS and other sponsors for their good gesture, noting that the proceeds will be put to good use.

MPG was recently given a shot in the arm when BPOMAS donated a P150 000 cheque.  ENDS
