Speaking in an interview on Wednesday the race’s organising committee chairperson Oscar Gobusamang said the marathon that started last year on Independence Day was a charity event, which was the brainchild of Kanye youth that seek to uplift the livelihood of the community.
Gobusamang said last year, the event benefited five primary schools in Kanye where they were given stationery to assist in the learning process to improve performance in schools.
The starting point is Mongala Mall in Kanye and the marathon is subdivided into three routes; 5 km Fun Run, 10 Km and 21 km routes.
He said organisers ponder to include educational and information dissemination platforms, disease screening and promotion of health eating and exercises.
He said voluntary counselling and testing for HIV/AIDS, safe male circumcision campaign and information sharing, youth empowerment schemes available at different organisations and ministries as well as blood donation were some of the services that would be availed at the event.
He urged the community to rally behind the organising committee to ensure success of the event saying he was optimistic that the event would be bigger and better. Ends
