Maun next stop for the great Botswana marathon

Maun will host the second part of ‘The Great Botswana Marathon’ slated for September 11.
Addressing media at Nhabe Museum in Maun last week, Fyne Productions consultant, Vince Mosimanewakgang said the marathon would take place in Francistown, Maun, Jwaneng and Gaborone respectively.
‘The Great Botswana Marathon’ is sponsored by Bomaid and is intended to celebrate the golden jubilee with a 50 km grand race and is expected to be an annual event in the four places.
Mosimanewakgang said this marathon was a new concept , which aims to bring people across the country together.
“This marathon will kick-start in Francistown on September 4, next stop will be Maun on September 11, Jwaneng on September 18 and lastly Gaborone on September 25,” he said.
The marathon will encompass four categories, a 5 km fun walk, 10 km race for those who need a challenge, 21 km race for semi-professionals and the grand 50 km which can also be a relay race.
The race is expected to start off at Maun Lodge at 530am.
Apart from the 5 km walk, the other three categories have a prize to be won, from the first to the third place runner or winner.
The 1st prize for the grand 50 km race will be P15 000, the 2nd is P12 000 and P10 000 for the 3rd runner-up. A total amount of P280 000 country wide.
The routes for the race will take place in all the key historical sites that make up Maun such as the old bridge and Nhabe museum. Ends
