Dagwi school performance impressive
22 Aug 2016
Dagwi Primary School in Tutume Sub-district, under the Central District Council, has been praised and celebrated for the outstanding performance in the 2015 Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE).
The school scored an overall of 100 per cent pass in ABC quality pass.
Speaking at the celebration ceremony for the outstanding results on Friday, Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraele Goya said recognition for best results acted as a motivation and inspiration to teachers, students and stakeholders to continue to do their best.
Mr Goya added that the Central district in its efforts to improve the declining academic performance in its schools, has come up with an initiative to embark on annual PSLE awards with aim to uplift the spirit of competitiveness among schools, teachers and learners.
Such an initiative, he said, needed to be highlighted because the declining academic performance for schools across the country was a great pain nationwide, hence the need for stakeholders’ collaborative efforts to revive performance in schools.
Furthermore, he stated that awarding performing schools would arouse their interest leading to effective classroom performance while at the same time enhancing competences and desire to work and learn at any given time or situation.
He also highlighted that just recently, the United Nations which Botswana is a member, adopted 17 sustainable development goals which aspired for quality education which would provide skills, competence and knowledge.
Such goals, he said aimed at stirring education for sustainable development as countries advocate for economic development.
Meanwhile, Botswana through its Education and Training Sector Strategic Plan (ETSSP) aspires for education that benefits learners, serves the economy and creation of employment.
On one hand, the Chinese Ambassador, Mr Zheng Zhuqiang donated a vehicle to the school as reward for excellence.
Mr Zhuqiang said the teaching staff and their stakeholders deserved rewards and compliments because their team work paid off greatly as they managed to outdo their counterparts across the country that are better placed in terms of resources and location.
Appreciating the gesture on behalf of the school, Member of Parliament for Nkange, Mr Edwin Batshu said they were grateful for the praise they received.
Mr Batshu said the 18 primary schools in the constituency had considered to outclass one another by working together towards a common goal of producing best results. Ends
