Electric Junction & Fair Price Group has sponsored Botswana Kofukan Federation to the tune of P120 000 for the year 2013.

Last year, the company sponsored the federation to an amount of P20 000 for the Kofukan schools and clubs karate championships.

Speaking at the launch on May 23 in Gaborone, Botswana National Olympics Committee vice president, Letsholo Letsholo said it was through the success of the federation that they were able to secure sponsorship.

He said in order to sustain the federation; there was need for sponsorship from the corporate world.

The vice president indicated that Botswana National Sports Council Vision 2012 strategy had contributed immensely to sports in Botswana adding that federations set their targets looking at the vision.

He said the fact that karate was on the verge of being introduced as an Olympic sport was a development that would see Botswana karatekas shine at Olympics as the locals were currently doing well at meets.

Letsholo thanked all the companies who had associated themselves with karate, saying it was a commendable move as sponsorship in sports went a long way in developing young people.

He told the federation to nurture the sponsorship so that the sponsor got value for their money.

“Use the funds carefully for the benefit of the federation as this will also attract more sponsors,” he noted.

Receiving the sponsorship, the federation’s patron, Matshwenyego Fischer said kofukan had done well in the past as evidenced by the number of black belt holders  in the country.

The patron said they appreciated the gesture as it would go a long way in the development of sports.

Fischer indicated that the private sector played a huge part by injecting funds into sports adding that government could not  manage to do it alone.

He urged parents to bring children to sports as it moulded them into responsible citizens by imparting self-discipline. ENDS
