Khama donates to BNSC

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has donated sport equipment to Re Ba Bona Ha different sporting codes amongst them football, volleyball and chess.

Speaking at the donation, Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele said Re Ba Bona Ha programme started in 2002, after realisation that some children did not have access to different sports codes.

He said Re Ba Bona Ha at first comprised of football adding that other codes like volleyball and rugby had since been roped in.

Mr Makgalemele further said he was confident that the donation would help the beneficiary in the development of their different codes.

Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) president Mr Daniel Molaodi said in an interview that the equipment would benefit them as they had Re Ba Bona Ha programmes all over the country.

He said their programme had been hard hit by lack of equipment, adding that the donation would help to augment the little that they had.

Mr Molaodi further said the country was “very vast” and there were other areas that volleyball had not reached so far, adding that all those who were interested in playing volley ball  looked at the executive to help them.

“As BVF, we have done well in terms of training both primary and secondary school teachers, but because we do not have control over them, their employers sometime post them to areas where there is no volleyball and they end up forming clubs and asking for equipment from us,” he said. Re Ba Bona Ha, a youth sport development programme was established by the Botswana National Sports Commission to assist refine the talent in the country and it has so far produced renowned athletes in the country.
