Township Rollers win premiership title

14 Aug 2016

Township Rollers are 2015/16 beMOBILE Premiership champions.

They won the league after drubbing Mochudi Centre Chiefs 5-1 in a title decider replay in Molepolole on Thursday (August 11).

The match was a league tittle decider following the fracas that stalled completion of the 2015/16 season after Rollers’ Ofentse Nato was fingered as a defaulter, triggering a series of complaints and counter complaints, suspensions of officials, and multiple disciplinary hearings.

The replay followed a botched tittle decider in Francistown last month.

Though the play-off marked completion of the season and a new league champion declared, the same matter was before the sports arbitration court .

Though the two sides command a large following, the dull encounter was played before a few spectators, no championship cup displayed and no sponsor banners as norm especially during deciding games, ended with no fracas and Chiefs this time around assembled a full squad.

Though Chiefs tried to contain marauding attacks by Rollers’ experienced Joel Mogorosi and Terrence Mandaza, it was not long before the duo exposed the backline in dealing with crosses.

Mandaza scored a brace both from crosses by Mogorosi after defence failed to close down Mogorosi whose pinpoint crosses were connected by Mandaza to give supporters something to cheer about.

Second half saw Rollers dominate luke-warm opponents forcing them to commit own goal with Segolame Boy and Semisani Mathumo netting the other goals. ENDS
