Structures in place for PLWDs
10 Aug 2016
The National Policy on Care for People Living with Disabilities guides different sectors on provision of services to people with disabilities, the Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration Mr Dikgang Makgalemele has said. Responding to a question from Francistown East MP Buti Billy in Parliament on Tuesday, the assistant minister said his ministry had established coordinating structures such as District Disability Coordinating Committee led by the district commissioners to ensure that service provision to people with disabilities is improved. The revised policy was to be tabled before parliament and it emphasised mainstreaming of disability services so that all sectors could play a role in the provision of services to people with disabilities. Mr Makgalemele said the policy will be implemented to ensure that people with disabilities benefit from government programmes and projects. MP for Farancistwn East Mr Buti Billy had asked the minister if he was aware that people living with disabilities (PLWDs) were still struggling to receive services and to state any deliberate policy formulated towards assisting them.ENDS
