Khama Rhino Sanctuary (KRS) receives an average of 25 000 visitors annually, according to the Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Mr Tshekedi Khama. Mr Khama stated that the statistics was made of approximately 7 000 day visitors and 17 000 night visitors. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, he said the sanctuary had a good mix of white and black rhinos. “Currently there are 60 animals at the Sanctuary, 53 white rhinos and seven black rhinos. There were two rhinos that were rescued from Moremi Game Reserve in the 1980s. One of them died from a translocation and related stress. Aside from these two, no animals were removed from the Okavango ever since,” Mr Khama said, responding to a parliamentary question. Maun West MP Mr Tawana Moremi had asked the minister to state the number of visitors at Khama Rhino Sanctuary, and whether there had ever been a rhino at the Sanctuary removed from the Okavango.ENDS
