Ministry attends to BDF housing shortage

The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security Mr Shaw Kgathi has told Parliament that Botswana Defence Force (BDF) like all government departments is confronted by shortage of accommodation.
He said efforts are being made to address the situation in all military camps including Glen Valley saying currently there are 2X96 men blocks and two blocks of town houses which have 12 units under construction. In addition, Mr Kgathi said there are l2X96 men block provided under the Economic Stimulus Programme in the pipeline.
Meanwhile, he said he is aware of the accommodation situation described by MP Haskins Nkaigwa who had asked the minister what is being done to address shortage of accommodation at Glen Valley Barracks. Soldiers who find themselves accommodated in operational areas and high security areas are not allowed to bring their friends and or families where they are accommodated. “This is a temporary arrangement and the situation is being addressed to provide accommodation to those soldiers where they can bring their families and friends,” he said.
MP Nkaigwa for Gaborone North had asked the minister about plans to remedy the soldiers plight.ENDS
