Organ bank possibility
10 Aug 2016
Parliament has been informed that a policy that creates an enabling environment for organ transplant in Botswana has been adopted by the Cabinet.
Responding to a question in Parliament on Tuesday, Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Alfred Madigele said this had led to services being provided through some partner facilities, and stated that an implementation plan for the policy has been approved by his ministry.
“The Policy is going through a public dissemination stage, with several dissemination modalities being made,” he said.
Dr Madigele said the policy legislative instrument for the organ bank is the Public Health Act 2013, which is currently undergoing drafting of subsidiary legislation.
“It is therefore believed that when the subsidiary legislation is in place an organ bank will be implemented as per the requirements of the Act,” he said.
MP for Ramotswa Mr Samuel Rantuana had asked the Minister to state the progress made in the establishment of an organ bank.ENDS
