No plans for schools in DiaganeTsolamosese

09 Aug 2016

The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Ms Botlogile Tshireletso says there are no plans to construct a primary school at Diagane and Tsolamosese in the near future.

Responding to a question from MP for Gabane/Mmankgodi Maj. Gen. Pius Mokgware in Parliament on Monday, Ms Botlogile said  most of the pupils from Diagane and Tsolamosese attended primary schools in Lesirane and Nkoyaphiri primary schools.

She said Lesirane Primary School had 26 streams, 22 classrooms and an enrollment of 1 042 pupils while Nkoyaphiri school had 27 streams, 22 classrooms and an enrollment of 1 057 pupils.

Ms Tshireletso said the two primary schools had reached the maximum number of 22 classrooms that a primary school could have as per Revised National Policy on Education. Therefore, she said it should be noted that the excess number from each of the two schools was too small; 162 and 177 for Lesirane and Nkoyaphiri respectively (339 combined) and said that this number did not justify the construction of new schools at Diagane and Tsolamosese to relieve the two schools.

Maj. Gen. Mokgware had asked the minister if education ministry could consider constructing primary schools in Diagane and tsolamosese given that Lesirane Primary School could no longer accommodate the large area of Tsolamosese. Ends
