At the commencement of the passenger train service, various challenges were experienced on the new coaches.

The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo, said this when responding to a question in Parliament from Francistown East MP, Mr Buti Billy.

The challenges, Mr Mabeo said were as follows; faults in Air Conditioning System, faults in the Toilet System, water contamination in the fuel tanks

“All the other issues were resolved at the account of the manufacturer/supplier except some of the costs associated with contamination of fuel,” he said.

Corrective measures that were associated with the contamination of fuel, he said were as follows; draining of all the contaminated fuel and cleaning of the fuel tanks, corrective disposal of the drained contaminated fuel and locks were provided for the fuel tanks.

“The total cost incurred by Botswana Railways associated with the cleaning of the fuel tanks due to issue relating to water contamination in the diesel tanks of the generator vans was P14 820,” he  said.

Mr Billy had asked Mr Mabeo to update Parliament on corrective measures taken on the Botswana Railways new passenger train and to state the costs of those corrective measures. Ends
