The ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has developed national guidelines on naming of streets, roads and public facilities which will be implemented during the National Development Plan (NDP) 11. Local government assistant minister, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, told Parliament that the guidelines provided local authorities with procedures and tools that facilitated a fair, consistent and efficient process for the naming and renaming of streets, roads and public facilities.  “The guidelines promoted community participation in the naming, renaming process and emphasises the use of indigenous, historical, meaningful and relevant names that enhance ownership and pride, Ms Tshireletso said on Monday. She was responding to a question asked by Gabane-Mmankgodi MP Major Gen. Pius Mokgware who had wanted to know whether the ministry would consider renaming places with traditional names to preserve traditions instead of using survey names.ENDS
