Gender affairs decentralises services

04 Aug 2016

Parliament has been informed that due to limited manpower resources, the Gender Affairs Department is currently present in Gaborone, Serowe, Selebi-Phikwe, Francistown, Kasane, Maun, Gantsi, Tsabong and Kanye.

Answering a question in Parliament on Wednesday on behalf of the Minister of Labour and Home affairs Minister, the Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism Mr Tshekedi Khama  said on June 30, 2016, cabinet approved the proposed ministry structure which will facilitate effective implementation of its mandate including services provided by the gender affairs department.

He said implementation of the structure will ensure further decentralisation of the functions of the ministry including gender affairs functions. In the meantime, a satellite office is being established in Masunga, North East District.  Already one temporary Women’s Economic Empowerment officer has been recruited to serve the district from Masunga. The Officer is expected to start work this month.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tati West Mr Biggie Butale had asked the minister when the gender affairs office servicing the entire North East District will be located in the district to cut costs and inconvenience for residents who travel long distance to access services.ENDS
