Over P16 million spent during games

Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu said over P16 million was spent during the Botswana Games, where all 16 administrative districts converged in Francistown in December 2015.
Answering a question in Parliament on Monday, on behalf of the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Mr Batshu said a total of 98 local companies based in Francistown benefited from the games and the total amount involved was over P9 million.
He stated that the main objective of the games was to identify and develop sporting talent at under 19 level.
“Thus, the games which brought together a total of 3484 participants served as a selection platform for the African Union Sport Council Region 5, Under 20 games to be held in Angola in December 2016.
MP for Francistown East, Mr Buti Billy had asked the minister to state the total number of money spent during th games and the number of companies based in Francistown that benefitted from the games and the amount involved. ENDS
