Process on to buy additional incinerator

03 Aug 2016

The South East District Council Landfill incinerator has been operating since 2005 until September 2014 when it experienced  malfunction.

This was said by Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, when responding to a question in Parliament on Tuesday from Ramotswa MP, Mr Samuel Rantuana.

“Quotations for its repair were submitted twice to adjudication committee, but the requests were rejected due to bidders’ non-compliance with the required specifications,” she added.

At the time the incinerator was dysfunctional, she said clinical waste was disposed at Otse Police College, Kanye and Lobatse.

She said the incinerator was repaired in September 2015 and was now working. As a long term solution, Assistant Minister said South East District Council was in the process of procuring a new incinerator and the tender was at evaluation stage.

“Outsourcing the service to private companies for ease of maintenance and servicing of the equipment will be considered in future, funds permitting,” she said.

Mr Rantuana wanted to know if Ms Tshireletso was aware that the incinerator at the Landfill in Ramotswa had not been working since 2014, due to delay in the procurement procedures of council.

Ramotswa MP also wanted to know if the  minister would consider outsourcing the services of the incinerator to private companies for ease of maintenance and servicing of the equipment. ENDS
