13 year old wins Dr Kims golf tournament

The annual Dr Kims Charity Golf Tournament that was held at the Selebi Phikwe Golf Course over the weekend came to an end on Sunday with 13 year old Kabelo Monyadzwe surprising many and winning the tournament and pocketing P4 000.
The youngster made history as he is the youngest golfer ever to be crowned the champion of the charity tournament. Monyadzwe played against 62 good and experienced golfers from around the country and displayed good skill accumulating 78 points in the 19 hole golf tournament that took two days.
Monyadzwe told BOPA in interview that he owed the win to his father who gave him support and mentorship and well as his coach. He also encouraged other young people to engage in the sport.
Meanwhile in the women’s category, Elizabeth Moseme became the overall winner and also walked home P4 000 richer. Moseme gained 69 points in the tournament, outclassing other players.
The Botswana Golf Union president Mpho Kelosiwang commended the winners of the tournament especially Monyadzwe.
He said by 13 year Monyadzwe winning the tournament showed that development in golf from grassroot level was imperative if the country is to have good and professional sports men in future.
In the meantime, Dr Kim’s Charity Golf Tournament attracted spectators from Selebi Phikwe and surrounding areas.
Also, the Soprano Bikers who are also part of event donated food hampers, clothes, soccer balls to residents of Sefhophe at the village kgotla on Saturday in an effort to encourage the spirit of ‘Botho’ as well as support charitable causes that aim to uplift the livelihoods of disadvantaged members of local communities.
Further, the same day, the Soprano Bikers Club which is a social club whose members are professional career people, entrepreneurs, businessmen and women from Gauteng- South Africa, in collaboration with Street Horn Entertainment held an empowerment workshop for youth in the mining town on Road Safety and Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
Also as part of the Dr Kim’s Annual Golf Tournament, the ReBatswana Music Ensemble which comprises Botswana’s internationally acclaimed musicians such as Lister Boleseng, Nnunu Ramogotsi, Ndingo Jowa, Banjo Mosele and Lekofi Sesupo and DJ Clearance held a concert to entertain guests at the golf club on Saturday night and some of the proceeds were donated to charity.
The charity tournament was characterized by a family fun day and live broadcast of the Duma FM Jazz Programme by DJ Source Katumbela on Sunday.
The tournament which is sponsored by SPEDU to the tune of P150 000, Dr Kim’s son Kina Kim, Hotel Selebi, Soprano Bikers from South Africa, Letsatsi Renewable Energy Selebi Phikwe Golf Committee and some contributors to the event such as Duma FM, The Voice , Botswana Golf Union had contracted Streethorn Entertainment to coordinate the event.ENDS
