Schools should issue out certificates
02 Aug 2016
The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraele Goya, says there are still a few reported cases of some schools which fail to release certificates when learners still owe school fees.
Answering a question in Parliament on Monday from the Member of Parliament for Francistown West Mr Ignatius Moswaane, Mr Goya said he had since declared that it was government policy not to inhibit any learner from being issued with certificate and further explained that schools should release certificates to learners irrespective of what was owed. Any cases reported to the contrary, he said, were dealt with immediately.
He further said parents were not required to accompany students to collect certificates, but were required to make a written undertaking that they would reimburse schools for losses and damages to government property caused by their children, before the certificates are released.
MP Moswaane had asked the assistant minister if he is aware that some school heads fail to release certificates to students who have outstanding school fees balance. He also wanted to know if the minister can make a provision for students to collect their certificates without the requirement of being accompanied by parents.ENDS
