Courts have shortage of bailiffs

The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, has admitted that some customary courts have a shortage of court bailiffs.
Answering a question in Parliament, she said the challenge was experienced by customary courts that handle large volumes of cases. Furthermore, she said, her ministry was unable to increase the number of court bailiffs due to the moratorium on growth of manpower.
She said in cases where customary courts have some backlog in either issuing summons or collecting fines from defaulters, court bailiffs are grouped together to form teams that assists in eradicating the backlog to remedy the situation.
Member of Parliament for Francistown West, Mr Ignatius Moswaane, if he was aware of the shortage of Court Bailiffs in customary courts; if so, to state measures in place to remedy the situation. ENDS
