Botswana Savings Bank (BSB) has introduced ATM and VISA Debit Card as a way of transforming from manual to digital.

Speaking during the launch in Gaborone on Thursday, Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo said the launch was not only a momentous occasion for BSB, but rather to the people of Botswana.

“The new ATM introduced allows customers to carry out cash deposits, a relatively new phenomenon in our local market which is offered by few banks and this is a clear demonstration that BSB is not only moving at speed in embracing digital banking but it is constantly working at wowing its customers by launching new innovative products,” he said.

He noted that the launch by Botswana Savings Bank is just one amongst the many initiatives that the bank will be rolling out to drive the financial inclusion agenda.

Mr Mabeo further said part of the Ministry of Transport and Communications mandate was to drive development and utilisation of information and communication technologies services in Botswana, therefore Botswana Savings Bank was amongst key aspects in the ministry by spreading the ICT developments.

He also highlighted that through the merger exercise, the bank will be a sister company to Botswana Post and Botswana Couriers as part of the parent company, Botswana Post and Savings Group Ltd.

In this regard, he said the bank will have direct access to the postal network which potentially gives it the opportunity to build the widest banking network in the country.

For her part, Botswana Savings Bank chairperson, Ms Juliana White mentioned that the VISA Debit Card introduced allows customers to access banking worldwide at BSB ATMs as well as other banks’ ATMs that are VISA enabled.

She further mentioned that the service offered is faster, easily accessible and affordable, also it  ranges from corporate deposits, individual deposits, and loans including unsecured personal loans even for non-customers so long as there is direct deduction from employer.

She urged Batswana to utilise the bank services in order to revolutionise their lives, as the bank has mandate to provide services to all communities.

The bank has already installed a total of four ATMs: three machines in Gaborone - two at BSB head office and one at Rail Park Mall. And the other has been installed at BSB Francistown Branch.
