No internal roads for Mmadinare
31 Jul 2016
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development says the project for the construction of Mmadinare internal roads and street lights, which was proposed in NDP8, was shelved due to lack of funds.
Mr Frans Van De Westhuizen said during NDP9, the designs were not funded and consequently it was not included amongst similar projects that were returned for implementation in NDP10.
He noted that in NDP 10, the only village infrastructure projects that were revived were those that had completed designs. The assistant minister further told Parliament that there were no plans to build both tarred and paved roads in Mmadinare during the 2016/17 to 2017/2018 financial years.
In addition, he said there were also no plans to install both the street and tower lights in Mmadinare due to financial challenges.
The MP for Mmadinare, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila had asked the assistant minister if he was aware that Mmadinare internal roads and streetlights were planned, but not constructed during NDP8, 9 and 10 periods.
He also wanted to know how many kilometres of both tarred and paved roads would be built in Mmadinare during the period 2016 to 2018 in order to address the urgent and severe backlog of internal road construction.
He further asked when street and tower lights would be installed in Mmadinare. ENDS
