2G for Motlhabaneng residents

In its efforts to improve customer service by ensuring that Orange customers across the country have access to the best network service, Orange Botswana has established a new network site in Motlhabaneng.

A press release from Orange Botswana states that with a population of just over 1 000, Motlhabaneng is a small village in the Bobirwa District located along the Motloutse River and close to the Zimbabwe and South African borders.

It says the new network tower, which will service the whole of Motlhabaneng, will give its residents access to Orange’s 2G network that is expected to change lives of the people of Motlhabaneg by giving them access to telecommunications services bridging the digital divide. 

According to Orange Botswana PR and foundation manager, Ms Boga Chilinde-Masebu, Motlhabaneng is a new coverage area for Orange Botswana and is an opportunity to extend the Orange Botswana Network.

Ms Chilende-Masebu said Orange communication services are viewed as a tool for development and economic stimulus. 

In the release, Ms Chilende-Masebu noted that Orange Botswana is always looking to extend the network coverage to as many citizens as possible including people in rural areas. 

The release further states that Orange Botswana prides itself in being the first network to set up in Motlhabaneng, thus playing a role in the development of the people of Motlhabaneng and  pleased to welcome them to the network. 

As per the release, the new network site will start off with 2G network coverage, but looking on to upgrade at a later stage to include the 3G connectivity.

The release also says Orange is on a recruitment drive for people who can sell their services such as sub dealers, service points and hawkers in Motlhabaneng, and that this is expected to create employment for residents. 

The release notes that Ms Chilende-Masebu encouraged residents of Motlhabaneng to take full advantage of the services brought to them by Orange, adding that the development is an opportunity for them to find ways of creating employment and making a livelihood for themselves using ICT and other aspects of the telecommunications industry.

Lastly the release says Orange is  not only bringing access to cellular networks, but also bring in Orange Money, in which customers can receive and send money anywhere within Botswana at any time and other services. ENDS
