Ghanzi South faces doctors shortage
24 Jul 2016
Ghanzi South has not been operating with a full complement of medical officers due to a shortage of doctors across the country.
Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Alfred Madigele, said in Parliament that the constituency, which had three clusters, required five doctors. “There are only three medical officers who are attached to the three clusters and the constituency has a shortfall of two doctors,” Dr Madigele said on Thursday.
He said the Charleshill cluster, which had a 24-hour facility, required three doctors while the other two clusters needed two. “My ministry is experiencing a critical shortage of doctors across the country. The plan is to service each constituency as posts get filled,” Dr Madigele said in response to a question.
Ghanzi South MP Mr Christiaan De Graaff had asked the assistant minister to state whether the area operates with a full complement of medical personnel. Ends
