Lack of funds hinder stadia building
24 Jul 2016
The Ministry of Sport, Youth and Culture (MSYC) desires to provide sports facilities in various centres around the country including Kgalagadi and Ghanzi District, but lack of financial resources is a major limitation, says the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu
Responding to a question in Parliament on behalf of the Minister of Sport, Youth and Culture, Mr Batshu admitted that the western region including Kgalagadi and Ghanzi District does not have a stadium. But the minister argued that underperformance by teams could not be solely attributed to the lack of a stadium, adding that there were factors that could contribute to performance, citing lack of good facilities as such factors.
Mr Batshu said the construction of stadia by the government would only be considered when the financial situation improves, adding that the private sector and donor agencies were encouraged to assist the government by putting or sponsoring such facilities to alleviate the situation.
The MP for Kgalagadi North, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi had asked the minister if he was aware that the whole of the western region that is Kgalagadi and Ghanzi District does not have a stadium.
He also wanted to know whether it was not a major contributing factor to underperformance of teams in the western region. Ends
