Spar donates kit to Botho rugby team

Spar have sponsored Botho University Rugby club, Riders with a men and women kit for the 2016/17 season valued at P30 000.
During the unveiling of the white, brown as well as pink and white kit, secretary general of Botswana Rugby Union, Ernest Mantsi appreciated the gesture from Spar.
Mantsi said for sport to grow from amateur to professional level, there were certain things that needed to be taken into consideration.
He pointed out that finance was the most important aspect of them all.
“In order for us to grow as a sport we need all those sponsorships and donations,” he said.
He also commended the rugby team for their resilience saying when clubs develop, it reflected positively on the union.
For his part, Botho Univertsity student and alumna affairs team leader, Keorapetse Setlhare said they were grateful for the offer from the sponsor.
He said he was aware how tough it was to secure sponsorships.
He stated that Riders have had kit sponors from First National Bank before, saying it would be the second consecutive year with a sponsor.
Setlhare said sponsorship must go beyond promotion of brand awareness which intend to attract potential customers but to extend the relationship.
That, he said would help develop sport from where it was.
As a result, he said it was important for the sponsors to fund teams with more than providing kits.
He said he hope that their relationship with the sponsor would help the team grow from strength to strength and help it achieve its dream, which they had failed to realise before. Ends
