Minister explains non-residential plots allocation

21 Jul 2016

Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele, has informed Parliament that non-residential plots are allocated  either through tendering process or by direct allocation to investors.
Responding to a parliamentary question on July 20, from Member of Parliament for Maun West Mr Tawana Moremi, Minister Maele said Bigarreau Consolidated Holdings submitted its proposal for a plot in the vicinity of Diamond Trading Company to build a five star hotel and up market residential apartments to cater for the needs of the special diamonds clientele.
The minister, however, explained that requests from such investors were considered with the input from relevant stakeholders such as Botswana Investment Trade Centre (BITC).
He said in this regard, BITC, having appraised and vetted the proposed project, recommended to the ministry, direct allocation of the plot to the said company, as it was deemed important and supportive of the diamond industry.
Minister Maele therefore said there were no other competitors because this was a direct allocation to the investor.MP Moremi had asked the minister to explain the process of asset disposal in the allocation of land to Bigarreau Consolidated Holdings (Pty) Ltd in Gaborone and also wanted to know how many other competitors were there.
