Sedie water quality acceptable
19 Jul 2016
Water from the Sedie water treatment plant which supplies part of Maun is within the acceptable quality standard despite its off colour, according to minerals, energy and water resource minister Mr Kitso Mokaila.
He said his ministry was exploring ways of addressing the aesthetic quality of water from the plant.
“Amongst these is discontinuing use of the plant and the construction of a dedicated 10km transmission main line to transport water from the Kubung tanks to the Wenela booster station for onward distribution to areas including Sedie, Wenela New Mall, Chobe and others,” Mr Mokaila briefed Parliament on Juy 13.
He said the line would be fed surface water from Thamalakane River when it is flowing and from Shashe and Kunyere well-fields.
He said the project will be done under the planned Maun Network Optimization, which is part of the Maun Water Supply Distribution System Rehabilitation, Maun Water Supply and Sanitation Project.
He said plans to rehabilitate Sedie water treatment plant last year were frustrated by lack of funds.
Maun West MP Mr Tawana Moremi had asked the minister to explain why water supplied to Maun was still black and grimy. ENDS
