Mmea khwee headmen of arbitration receive allowances

12 Jul 2016

Mmea and Khwee villages have two headmen of arbitration each who are paid monthly allowances.

According to the acting Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, one of the Khwee headmen of arbitration was recognised in 2006 while the other three were recognised last year in September.

“All the four are getting their monthly allowances and none of them is owed back pays,” Ms Tshireletso told Parliament on Monday.

She said headmen of arbitration were not in government payroll system, pointing out that her ministry would consider putting them in the payroll after review of their code of conduct during the 2017/18 financial year.

Boteti East MP Mr Setlhomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister to state the number of headmen of arbitration in Mmea and Khwee villages and when they were recognised.

He also asked when they would be part of government payroll system. ENDS
