Hospitals to complement each other
10 Jul 2016
There are no plans to set Bamalete Lutheran Hospital as a centre of excellence for ear, nose and throat (ENT).
Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Alfred Madigele said the hospital and the teaching hospital at the University of Botswana were expected to complement one another in the provision of ENT services.
Dr Madigele said the government has come up with the teaching hospital which would be a quaternary health care facility with plans to provide a variety of medical specialties including ENT services.
He further explained that Bamalete Lutheran Hospital was a missionary hospital supported by the government but with an independent administration.
He also noted that the hospital delivers at the level of a district hospital similar to government district hospitals where specialised services in several medical specialities were offered depending on the human resource compliment to deliver the services.
The MP for Ramotswa, Mr Samuel Rantuana had asked the assistant minister if he would consider setting the Bamalete Lutheran Hospital as the centre for excellence for ear, nose and throat (ENT) since the hospital has expertise and necessary equipment for ENT.ENDS
