Funds to undertake project available

The estimated costs of connecting areas in Kgatleng that are served from South Africa to the national grid is P17 million, the Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila has said.
Minister Mokaila said there were funds to undertake the project and that it would be undertaken in the future. He said the government’s long term objective was for the country to be self-sufficient in electricity supply.
This, he said, involved connecting all areas that were currently served through cross-border connections to the national grid, including areas in Kgatleng District.
Mochudi East MP, Mr Isaac Davids had asked the minister when electricity supply would be pulled from the local grid instead of the supply coming from the South African grid to enable local technicians to remedy the constant cutting of electricity on the South African side. BOPA
