Invest in farm workers

07 Jul 2016

Mr Rudy Lemckey has once again won the overall bull champion at the Ghanzi Agricultural Show with a Simmental bull prepared by Tholo Holdings.

In an interview, Mr Lemckey said he gives credit to his farm workers and good grazing field.

He said farm workers’ welfare should be the priority if one aspires to produce good livestock breeds.

In addition, Mr Lemckey said he was renovating his workers’ houses to better living conditions with addition of solar power.

He said by so doing far, workers also pride themselves in their job and eventually be productive. Good grazing fields, Lemckey also noted, constitutes good farming.

As a farmer who specialises as a field farmer, he said he encourages fieled days in order to share his expertise to aspiring young farmers as well as share with them how to breed winning cattle.

With regards to private abattoir, Mr Lemkey said private abattoirs were necessary because they bring competition as well as empowering farmers.

He said private abattoirs would not in any way close the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC). Mr Lemckey said it was disappointing to find out that there were some people who still criticise the need for private abattoirs.

“We must be very proud of our country and be united as a nation and farmers,” he said. ENDS
