Council maintains 104km road network
07 Jul 2016
Provision is made every year through the recurrent budget for routine maintenance of roads in Gaborone that includes renewal of road markings, painting of street kerbs and sweeping of dirt or silt.
This was said by Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso in Parliament on Wednesday.
Ms Tshireletso said due to resource constraints, the Gaborone City Council has managed to complete only 104 kilometres of the 6 000 kilometres network of bituminous roads on a yearly basis in the city.
She said her ministry through the Gaborone City Council has always endeavoured to maintain the entire network of roads in the whole of Gaborone by re–painting road markings, kerbs and also by sweeping the roads utilising the limited resources allocated for roads maintenance, supplemented by Ipelegeng.
The MP for Tati West, Mr Biggie Butale had asked the assistant minister if the recent paintings of roads, street kerbs and sweeping of the same would cover the whole of Gaborone and what had prompted the good move. Ends
