Lack of funds stall drainage plan implementation
05 Jul 2016
Due to budgetary constraints and other competing priorities, the Gaborone drainage master plan has not been implemented.
This was said by Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso.
Ms Tshireletso said the ministry would consider the prioritisation of the project when submitting proposals for inclusion in National Development Plan 11.
However, as the design had been shelved for over 13 years, she said, “there will be a requirement for a review of the design to take into account any changes that have taken place on the ground.”
She added that “the estimated cost for the project will be more accurately determined at the time of implementation, when the project designs are revised.”
Gaborone North MP, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had wanted to know if the minister was aware of the long developed storm water drainage master plan for Gaborone.
He also wanted to know when would the master plan be implemented and how much it would cost. ENDS
