Mafolofolo ladies team thrashed Spiking Stars 3-0 on Sunday to maintain their position at the top of the Mascom Volleyball League.

Mafolofolo dominated the match played at Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN) from the onset and had too much firepower for their struggling opponents.

Fielding seasoned stars like Gabaresepe Mashaole, Taboka Tema, Gaoleseletse Gasekgonwe, Tsholofelo Retshabile, and Kelebogile Mahupela, coach Kabo Ntshinogang’s team snatched the first set 25-12.

Their attack comprising national team stars, Retshabile, Gasekgonwe and setter Mahupela easily found openings through the Stars porous block which was constructed around Mpho Thamu, Onneile Homa and Boingotlo Ramososwane.

Stars, who remained at the bottom of the log with six points from six matches, were also undone by their below par reception which could not cope with the opposition strikes.

Despite losing Gasekgonwe through injury, Mafolofolo continued their dominance in the second set which they easily won 25-13 to increase their lead to 2-0. 

After realising that they had the match under control, the log-leaders dropped their performance levels in the third. But they ultimately won the set 25-16 to complete a straight sets victory.

The log-leaders were registering straight sets victory for the third successive match after defeating Selebi Phikwe Club and Mag Stimela by the same scores a fortnight ago. They are now perched at the top of the standings with 25 points from nine matches.

Mafolofolo assistant coach, Boitumelo Botsang said his team did not play its best game even though they won the match.

“We won a lot of points through services because our opponents couldn’t return the serves most of the time. Our players took things easy in the second and third sets and the performance dropped,” he said. Meanwhile, defending champions, Kutlwano continued to climb up the log standings after their 3-0 victory over Mag Stimela on Sunday.ENDS
