The 42nd edition of the annual Ghanzi agricultural show preparations is well underway with a few additions to the activities.
The show’s public relations officer, Mr Thuso Mackenzie, said there was not much change in this year’s show activities except showcasing of camels and a fee for horseracing.
Mr Mackenzie said spectators might get a chance to ride on the camels during the day.
The other addition would be the football tournament which Mr Mackenzie said was back after removal a few years back.
This year’s football tourney would see premier league side, Sankoyo Bush Bucks, head to head with Ghanzi Select XI. He said the Ghanzi Select XI players will be selected from various football clubs in Ghanzi region.
With close to 200 exhibitors, Mr Mackenzie said they expected close to 5 000 to 7 500 people in this year’s fair.
Mr Mackenzie noted that this year they would be embracing the golden jubilee independence using the Ghanzi fair as a buildup activity to other activities for the 50th celebrations in Ghanzi.
Ghanzi show is estimated to generate more if not close to P700 000 to the economy of Ghanzi.
Some of the sponsors of the show include Botswana Tourism Organization, Motor Vehicle Aid Fund, Barclays Bank Botswana, local businessmen Rudy Lemke and Joseph Bimbo. Mackenzie indicated however that other sponsors are still to confirm their partnerships.
Ghanzi show is expected to kick start on July 4, with livestock, crop, corporate and government, private sector exhibitions. ENDS
