The Council chairperson for Kgatleng District Mr Mpho Morolong said there are 665 registered poverty eradication beneficiaries under alternative packages of which 559 have been trained in the district.
Speaking at the full council session on June 27, he said 29 beneficiaries have not turned up for training, while a total of 37 beneficiaries have withdrawn from the poverty eradication programme for various reasons such as engagement in different projects.
Mr Morolong said out of 599 trained beneficiaries, 216 are funded and given packages while 412 trained beneficiaries are still awaiting their packages.
Out of 105 funded packages, Morolong said there are seven group projects with 14 beneficiaries and one individual project which are non-operational and the 27 groups with 60 beneficiaries and two individual projects which are currently running successfully.
He said the project memorandum for all implementing departments within the district amounting to P 21 261 433.50 was submitted to Office of the President requesting for funds to finance packages for this financial year noting that only P 3000 000 has been disbursed to fund programme to date. “I have been informed that lack of commitment to projects by some of the beneficiaries and group dynamics are still persistent challenges to the success of the program”, said Morolong.
Furthermore, the council chairperson said the district has been allocated funds to construct 26 destitute houses at various locations in the district and 5 RADP houses at Kgomodiatshaba adding that tendering process for the projects has commenced and construction is expected to start in July 2016 for completion by the end of September 2016.
On a different note, Mr Morolong said the district has managed to deliver services to 5582 registered clients during the quarter under review and this comprises of 1592 destitute persons, 1532 needy students, and 1180 orphans, 1148 cost sharing, 16 community home-based care and 114 children need of care.
He said the number of registered clients is increasing while the budget remains the same adding that this calls for assessment of beneficiaries before end of March 2017, he noted that the exercise will assist in decreasing the number of registered clients. Ends
