Botswana Fibre Networks (BoFiNeT) has donated 10 bunk beds, 20 mattresses, six metal lockers, jungle gym, combined printer, scanner and photocopier, and games to Kgomodiatshaba Primary School.
Speaking during the official hand over of refurbished boy’s hostels and lounge suit for boys common room, combined with BoFiNet community service day on June 24, the director of telecommunications and postal services, Mr Paul Seakamelo, said Kgomodiatshaba was fortunate to have crossed paths with BoFiNet.
He said BoFiNet was running a programme in which they assisted children in vulnerable situations, halting the cycle of poverty in their lives and they found boarding schools for these children and when they located this school they wanted to improve their living standards.
Mr Seakamelo commended BoFiNet for their good gesture because it brings an opportunity for children at the hostel to live better lives while at the same time their chances of doing well at school are better than before.
He further said it was important to ensure that the foundations of the leaders of tomorrow are constantly being improved.
The director who was speaking on behalf of the Minister of Transport and Communications Mr Tshenolo Mabeo said “It has become apparent that government alone cannot do it and any helping hand from the private sector and parastatals like BoFiNet is key to ensuring that we grow our future leaders in the best possible environment.”
Speaking on behalf of Minister of Education and Skills Development Dr Unity Dow, the director of Kgatleng Regional Operations, Mr Matlhogonolo Mokakapadi said they appreciate the good gesture extended to them by BoFiNet which will go a long way in helping the children.
He said such a partnership was critical in making sure that children have the best possible learning environment which gives them an opportunity to play and learn at the same time.
Mr Mokakapadi said as the ministry of education they applaud such contributions to the development of children who are the leaders of tomorrow.
The school head of Kgomodiatshaba Primary School Ms Ogomoditse Mhapha said they are so grateful and thankful for the donations.
She said the children will have an opportunity to play and also rest at the lounge while at the same time they will be refreshed when they go back to school.
Ms Mhapha said together with teachers will work tirelessly to improve the grades of the school.
When giving an overview of the project, BoFiNet board chairman, Mr Ratsela Mooketsi said they demonstrate their continued commitment to serving communities as part of the Ministry of Transport and Communications continued drive to uplift the livelihoods of identified communities as part of community service day.
He said the decision to assist Kgomodiatshaba Primary School was informed by the school’s graciousness in agreeing to partner with BoFiNet to provide schooling to 11 children from Tlokweng whom they have adopted as part of corporate social responsibility.
Mr Mooketsi said besides the donations they have given, they will also be assisting the school with installation of television satellite connectivity which makes the school a home where boarders can feel comfortable even in the absence of their biological parents.
He concluded by adding that BoFiNet will support Kgomodiatshaba Primary School’s prize giving ceremony for the next five years in order to further improve the academic results. Ends
