Committee urges farmers to participate

27 Jun 2016

The chairperson of Kanye Agricultural Show Committee Mr Molaodi Magosi has urged Kanye farmers and surrounding villages to attend the show in large numbers and show case their field products and livestock for exhibitions.

Mr Magosi was addressing a kgotla meeting in Kanye recently, and said the agricultural show will be held in Kanye on 28 July to 31 July.

He said the show had been halted in the previous years in Kanye due to drought and the some farmers who were not committed and dedicated to farming even though the government was supporting them.

He appealed to organisers of the show to grow the initiative until it became one of the major activities in Gangwaketse region.

Mr Magosi stated that the show ground stall materials had been stolen. He appealed to residents to assist the show committee with funds and ideas to maintain the ground.

He decried that most   farmers were  not showing passion to agriculture even though it was the sector that produced food which was needed by both the country and the people.

He said other districts were holding agricultural shows annually where people shared ideas and show cased their products.

Farmers who attended the meeting said agricultural shows were first introduced in Kanye in Botswana by their Dikgosi before copied by other districts. They were  worried that today they were  the least in holding shows.

The meeting also talked about preparations for the jubelee celebration.  Ends
