The Minister of Transport and Communication Mr Tshenolo Mabeo has called for private sector partnership towards improving the education system in Botswana.
Speaking during a handover ceremony of the e-learning project donated to Sekgele Junior School by Dimension Data, a Gaborone- based IT company and a computer Library donated by WTISD stakeholders follows commemoration of the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day at Thamaga on June 18.
The minister said private partnership was much critical in driving the education system since government with its limited resources would not be able to achieve its intended goal.
The minister expressed gratitude over Dimension Data’s gesture, encouraging government to support companies of its caliber that were continuing to show support by paying back to communities supporting its business growth.
The minister urged the Ministry of Education and Skills Development to ensure capacity building by empowering teachers with relevant computer skills to be able to impart the required knowledge on student.
Receiving the donation on behalf of his ministry, The Assistant minister of Education and Skills Development Mr Moiseraele Goya expressed gratitude over the donation saying it was a benevolent gesture and appropriate investment aimed to address under achievement in government schools
“Every effort is needed to address this scenario as gone are the days where we stuck to old ways of teaching as we are hopeful that the gesture will help change the delivery,” stated Goya.
The e-learning project was handed over to the Minister Mabeo by an official of Dimension Data Mr Duncan Pie while the handing over of the library was handed over by Mr Segolame Motlhagodi who is the chairperson of the Literacy Improvement sub Committee on behalf of the WTISD stakeholders.
