Puma fuels Desert Race
19 Jun 2016
Puma Energy would this year provide 30 000 litres of ULP 95 and 10 000 litres of diesel at subsidised prices thus becoming the official fuel supplier at the Toyota 1000km Desert race.
Speaking at the Toyota 1000km cheque handover, general manager of Puma Energy, Mahube Mpungwa said their involvement with the Desert Race dates back to 2011.
He indicated that Puma Energy would handle all the logistics ensuring that fuel was delivered to the racing teams.
“This move has improved the safety aspect of the race as competitors no longer have to transport their own fuel and the fuel we supply will be provided to all registered participants of the race being race cars, quad bikes and motorbikes,” he said.
Mpungwa said his company prides itself in rallying behind events that boost tourism and the country’s economy such as the recent WesBank International Airshow and the Khawa Sand Dune Challenge.
He indicated that their involvement in the Desert Race shows their continued commitment to fuelling success in the region.
“We take pride in our work and believe that we empower progress and help fuel growth in Botswana,” he said.
In addition to the fuel sponsorship, he said Puma Energy would also sponsor two racing cars.
“They are Class A driver, Dr Keith Makenete and his navigator Taelo Mochebelele as well as Class P car driver Andrew Makenete with his navigator, Reginald Mothibeli,” he said.
Mpungwa further said the sponsorship of the two cars was in the form of fuel and technical support valued at P65 000.
He said the decision to be part of this endeavour was an easy one to make as they remain the key player in the fuel and lubricants industry in Botswana.
“We will continue our commitment to support activities that have potential to develop the tourism sector in Botswana and our hope are solely for the success of the Toyota 1000km Desert Race,” He said.
The Toyota 1000km Desert Race attracts over 20 000 motorsport enthusiast from across the region annually and the numbers continue to grow with the event’s popularity.
The event takes place on the weekend of June 24. ENDS
