Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Mr Tshekedi Khama has said litter picking should be a way of life.
Speaking during the start of Public Service Day clean-up campaign that was led by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama and Cabinet ministers on June 17, he said people should have some form of discipline when handling litter and not to dispose it indiscriminately.
“I think of the times when we consider the cost to the environment and that cost has a stage where it originates from. It originates from people,” he said.
He said standards that people set were the very standards that they will be judged by.
Director of Public Service Management, Ms Ruth Maphorisa said in an interview that Public Service Day clean-up campaign was a wrap-up of events of the Public Service Day celebrations.
She said after week-long celebrations, it was worthwhile to clean up the surroundings, adding that the cleaning was taking place countrywide.
“Public officers are happy that we do not only push them to do work, but we also recognise their invaluable contribution to the government,” she said.
Ms Maphorisa said she hoped after these celebrations public service employees were rejuvenated and ready to work hard to produce good results.
Week-long Public Service Day celebrations were held under the theme; Fifty Years of Service to the Nation: United and Proud. ENDS
