The popular Kabelano Charity Spectacular will not be played this year.

Competition organisers, Kabelano Trust, failed to find sponsorship for the one-day event.

Township Rollers beat Mochudi Centre Chiefs 3-2 in the final to win the competition for the record fifth time last year. 

Kabelano Trust revealed this week, through a statement, that they struggled to find a new sponsor after a three-year sponsorship agreement with Barclays Bank ended last year.

Consequently the organisation said the four-team tournament that usually combined football with music will not take place this year, explaining.

“The trustees have been actively pursuing a new sponsor, which has proved challenging given the current economic climate. While discussions with potential sponsors are ongoing, the trustees do not believe any possible sponsorship will be finalised in time for the trust to make the necessary arrangements for the event to take place as planned.

It is for this reason that the trustees have taken the decision not to hold the event this year,” the press statement released on Monday stated.

Kabelano Trust said the event had been provisionally scheduled to take place in Francistown July 30.

“The trustees can assure the many lovers of this event that they will not relent on their efforts to find suitable sponsors to ensure that the event takes place next year and in the future,” the trust added. 

The Kabelano Charity Spectacular was first played in 1996 with Extension Gunners crowned as inaugural winners.  

Township Rollers are record winners with five titles won in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2014 and 2015.ENDS
