Tonota FC fight for survival

21 May 2013

The First Division North last season’s relegation candidate, Tonota FC will once more fight for their stay in the league in their remaining matches.

At their game played at the Leopards grounds in Francistown on May 18, the team suffered another loss after their last week humiliation at the hands of Orapa United, when Amakhosi of Francistown beat them by a solitary goal of Eric Dibuile on the 27th minute.

Both sides were placed 3rd and 4th from the bottom of the league standings after 17 matches leaving them with five matches each.

The win by Amakhosi has slightly helped them move away from the relegation zone by one step above Great North Tigers (GNT), who are also experiencing difficulties in the field of play to win games.

Both teams went to the half time break separated by the only goal scored before the half hour mark and half time break messages from the coaches did not bring any changes to their approach of the game, although Tonota FC fought tirelessly to win the ball in the midfield where their host was dominating in the second half.

After the substitution of Edger Sebeko for Emmanuel Nyane, Tonota FC changed the pace of the game to allow and push their attacking midfielder Bolokang Modiri to attempt at the goals.

It was unfortunate for them that in the 57th minute, his grass cutter shot missed by an inch while his other attempt on the 71st went over the cross bar to the astonishment of their supporters who accompanied them to the away fixture.

As pressure was coming forth from the visitors, Amakhosi resorted to defending in numbers and man marking their opponents to safe guard their lead and deny Tonota FC strikers a chance to equalise. ENDS
