Barclays launches discounts offers

Consumer director at Barclays Bank Botswana says the new programme of Discounts & Offers, signifies the bank’s commitment to its customers.

The new programme, he said, would save customers’ money whenever they do their purchases at the bank’s partner stores.

Speaking at launch of the Barclays Discounts & Offers programme, Mr Brighton Banda said discount programmes were not popular in the banking sector. 

“Competition is mostly common among non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs), mobile operators and retail chains and at Barclays we pride ourselves in being the first bank to have the discount offers for our entire card base, that is the credit and debit card customers,” he said.

He said their customers would enjoy up to 20 per cent discount from a variety of their merchant partners, 7.5 per cent off the recently launched Ignition youth account at Urban Soul, 10 per cent off accommodation all around Botswana and in Zambia at Cresta and 10 per cent on food at Saffron for all Barclays cardholders.

“Cresta, Rodizio, Samsung, Lengau Wine Company, Rhapsodys, Young Chefs, Cell City, Urban Soul, Urban Space, Linga Longa, Diggers Inn, Thorn Tree, Décor waves and Saffron are our partners,” he said, adding that with such many partners that they are starting with, there is a potential for growth with the offering.

“I would like to thank our partners for seeing it fit to come on board as we continue to better our services to our customers, which is both our core mandate,” said Mr Banda, further adding that Barclays Bank Botswana strived to be the bank of choice in Botswana and it is only when their customers prosper, will the bank prosper as well.

With the bank mostly known to have a customer base of upper middle income class, the move is set to be designed to attract the youth to use the bank as it looks to diversify its customer base among others. ENDS
