08 Jun 2016

Renowned karate guru, Sensei Thuto Thuto, has introduced an initiative that seeks to improve the fitness and health standards of Batswana, titled Kickbutt fitness challenge.

During launch of his initiative in Gaborone, Sensei Thuto said he came up with the idea with the intention of revolutionising life in the gym.

He said he observed that a new trend had surfaced in gyms, which showed that most people seemed to be bored and eventually losing interest with daily exercising in the gym.

He said then he came up with a programme that would make participants interested and consistently attending to exercises to keep fit and healthy.

“People have turned to be too comfortable in gyms, I have seen a lot of people on the treadmill while in the same time working on their phones,” he said.

He said with that it was clear for him that people were getting more comfortable and bored working out in the gym, hence he came up with the initiative to help kickbutt themselves out of the comfort zone.

Sensei Thuto further said the initiative works in three folds. He said it aimed at increasing fitness awareness in people, to sensitize the nation on health related illness caused by lack of exercising and the need for one to be healthy conscious therefore increase productive in building of the nation.

He said financial costs to company resulted from ill health caused by poor nutrition and lack of exercise, explaining that the cost come in the cause of high absenteeism and a lot of stress in the work place.

One of the sponsors, CEO of Native Group Mpho Balopi said he appreciated the importance of keeping fit and healthy because he believed employees were the most important asset of a company.

He said when the employees were struggling to execute their roles then it means the company will be affected and productivity will decrease.

He explained that a company could  have the best of equipment but with the employees unfit there is nothing more the equipment work.

Balopi said hence he saw it important to subscribe for gym session for his employees and attested that it have worked for them ever since. He said according to him it is the responsibility of organisations to make sure their personnel is fit and healthy.

For his part Walter Solomon, the managing director of Sulzer Botswana who also come across as sponsors, said the initiative would make a huge change to Batswana as far as helping them keep healthy and fit.

“I have close to eleven years subscribed to gyms, and all along I have never seen the importance of having a personal trainer until I met Sensei Thuto and now I regret why I did not get one before,” he said.

He said what he did before was amateurish because he will go into the gym and do one and the same thing. However he said Sensei Thuto’s KickButt program was more professional. ENDS
