National championships unearthed new talent

06 Jun 2016

The culmination of Botswana Athletics Association national championships hosted recently at the national stadium in Gaborone unearthed new talent in the likes of a 13 year old girl Lame Nare who ran 3000m with a time of 10:38s

The Bobonong-born who is doing her Form One in the village came nearer to the national record as the championships celebrated the new talent. The rough, unpolished diamond was thrown into the deep end and she proved herself to the multitudes together with her competitors alike.

The championships were used as a yardstick for qualification for the Olympic Games that will be hosted in the capital city of Brazil, Rio De Janairo August this year. The grassroots development of a sport is always measured by the future competitive performance from the athletes if the program is followed properly.

Nare will attest to this and take strength that proper nurturing of athletes brings the required results. Proper nurturing of young boys and girls will ultimately grow the competitive spirits of the athletes, and they will use the skills they acquired while they were still in the grassroots development to concur the world stge.

The 13 year old was tested in the championships which she managed to surpass expectation of the spectators. She was raised and schooled in the dusty streets of Bobonong. Nare left multitudes of fans eating from their palms.

Nare completed her race in style as from the beginning she maintained a pace she managed which her competitors failed to surpass throughout the entire race. She ran the race wearing socks not the usual track boots used by professional athletes. She scooped a gold medal along with a cheque from Botswana Athletics Association worth P1000 in accordance with her hard work and perseverance at the training grounds.

The multitudes of the fans that were in the stands ululated and whistled appreciating the young girl heroics and contributed money voluntarily and one family pledged P500 to show compassion for the little girl.

The contributed money amassed to the tune of P1 400, 32 to encourage her. Nare will attest that truly sport can be employment in its own and sustain the lives of athletes. ENDS
