IP Investments has started constructing a new Engen filling station in Bobonong.

In an interview, the site foreman, Mr Mothusiemang Makgasa, said construction of the filling station would address issues of fuel shortage and also reduce traffic at the only filling station in the village.

He said the surrounding villages of Molalatau, Mathathane and Gobojango were depending on it.

Mr Makgasa said construction of half a million filling station started in March and was expected to be complete by September.

He added that the filling station belonged to Watson Lemo’s family and would be operating under rules and regulations of Engen Petroleum.

“The filling station consist of three tanks of leaded, unleaded petrol as well as a diesel tank,” he said.

He said they had prioritised safety at the construction site by hiring a qualified experienced SHE officer, adding that they had all the necessary safety equipment to protect workers.

He added that there  would be a quick shop where a variety of products will be sold.

He further said their company had already created employment to the residents of Bobonong as they had employed 10 people, but expected to hire more.

Mr Makgasa highlighted that the new filling station signaled development to the area, adding that a lot of people would be employed by the filling station where they would work as fuel attendants and cashiers.

However, he said unavailability of local companies to supply them with concrete and bricks was a challenge as they were relying on companies as far as Selebi Phikwe and Francistown. Ends
